Jo Thresher launches Financial Education company, Better With Money

Following nearly 30 years’ experience in financial services, Jo Thresher, former Head of Money at Work for Jelf Employee Benefits, has launched Better With Money, a company that focuses on improving financial wellness among employees.

The company, headed up by Jo, is supported by a team of professional financial trainers who work with companies across the UK. The company provides face-to-face and web-based financial wellness workshops to employees.

Thresher has identified a huge and growing problem in the UK of financial ignorance which affects many areas of an employee’s life, from stress and anxiety affecting health, through to an inability to focus at work affecting productivity. Better With Money’s workshops cover all areas of financial health from debt management through to pensions, with the focus very much on fun.

Thresher, director of Better With Money, said: ‘Dealing with finances can be at best dry, at worst downright boring, we know that the best way to learn is to have fun. Our workshops are interactive, focused and bring the topics to life.’

The emphasis is on offering practical help, enabling attendees to develop plans and take responsibility for all areas of their finances, from debt management and budgeting, to protection and pensions.

As Thresher says: ‘It’s very rewarding helping employees understand practical areas that affect their day-to-day life, such as the Help to Buy schemes so they can buy their first home, or setting apprentices on the right path so they don’t incur unnecessary debts.’

As an independent company they don’t offer full financial advice or sell products, so they can focus purely on helping employees understand their finances better. They work directly with employers as well as on behalf of intermediaries and providers and can offer guidance on all areas of an employee’s financial health including Flexible Benefit choices and company pensions.

Thresher continued, ‘The jury’s no longer out, we know there’s a direct link between financial education and productivity. Employees who have less financial worry are less likely to be absent and more likely to be productive. This is good for companies and good for employees too – who are happier when less stressed about money.

‘We have been overwhelmed with the interest in financial education from UK plc, one day financial education in the workplace will be the norm, and the reason we’ve launched Better With Money is to have the freedom to bring some fun into the topic and make a real difference to the UK’s employees.’

The company was launched in September 2016. For more information on courses please visit Better with Money.
