Travel Money

After two years of restrictions, foreign travel has opened up again and many of us will be hoping for an overseas holiday this year. Whether your idea of a summer break is hiking in the alps, camping in the Dordogne, or the sun, sea, and sand of the Mediterranean, going abroad on holiday is an exciting prospect which many of us look forward to for months in advance.

When it comes to holidays and travel, we tend to know what we can afford when we begin to plan our summer trip. However, all too often “extras” we hadn’t initially considered, plus unforeseen costs we incur whilst we are away enjoying ourselves, can blow a hole in our budgets that mean we are still paying for our holiday long after any suntan has faded.

Take getting to the airport, for example. Many people only consider this after they have secured a great package holiday deal. Whilst it can be inexpensive if you live within a train or bus ride of an airport and your flights are at “train and bus friendly” times, getting to the airport can add hundreds of pounds to the cost of a holiday if you need to use a taxi or use airport parking.

With there still being uncertainty surrounding covid, you also need to think about Travel Insurance. Sure, it’s possible to get cheap travel insurance if you shop around, but you need to ensure it provides the right level of cover if one of your holiday group gets Covid shortly before you are due to depart, or if we face a situation where covid-19 travel restrictions start to be reimposed!

Then there may be the hidden cost of using your mobile phone abroad now that the UK has left the European Union, ensuring your holiday money doesn’t get eaten up in unexpected bank charges or foreign exchange fees, and a whole host of other things to consider.
You see, whilst many of us will have been on overseas holidays many times before, it’s easy to forget all the extra things you need to consider, or that even the best planned holiday can get derailed by hidden costs.

That is why Better With Money has developed a webinar called “Travel Money” which aims to provide employees with the knowledge and tools they need to get the best possible holiday for their budget and avoid any of the unpleasant surprises that holidaying abroad can sometimes bring.

Better With Money’s webinar provides education and information including the where to get the best exchange rates, advice on travel insurance, things to consider when booking budget flights and why it is important to book your holiday on a credit card!

People work hard to afford a holiday, and after the demanding couple of years we have all had, everyone deserves a break. At Better With Money, we hope that by providing financial education in the workplace we can help employees have the holiday they deserve and ensure the stories they share when they get back are of the fun they had, rather than how their dream holiday turned into a bit of a money nightmare!
